Institut für Aerodynamik und Gasdynamik (IAG)

GCSHelisim is the current HPC infrastructure set up for the rotorcraft & aeroacoustics group at IAG, to further carry on the track record after 30 years of rotorcraft simulation at IAG. Advanced numerical rotorcraft simulation is one of the most demanding research directions at IAG, necessitating significant computational resources to deliver trimmed, aeroelastically coupled results for full helicopter configurations in arbitrary free flight conditions. Further advanced rotary configurations are investigated. The tool chain to accomplish detailed insight into the flow physics coalesces around the flow solver FLOWer. The simulation framework is continuously extended and optimized to utilize HPC resources efficiently, with scaling substantiated up to several ten thousand cores. The computational resources requested enable the group to further expand on previous outstanding achievements, and thus to consolidate the position as one of the worldwide leading groups on this topic.
