Our research field is turbulence in the edge and scrape-off layer of magnetic confinement fusion experiments (e.g. tokamaks). Via the fluid turbulence code GRILLIX [1], which has been developed by our group since 2014, we study pressing open research questions, e.g. edge confinement and turbulent transport, heat exhaust and advanced operational scenarios. Ab initio simulations of present day machines (e.g. ASDEX Upgrade, TCV) have been performed and successfully validated against experimental measurements [2]. We would like to perform simulations of further experimental scenarios to deepen our understanding on edge turbulence and run predictive simulations for future machines (e.g. ITER). HAWK appears to be a good candidate, in order to compensate for the additional required computational resources of our research plans. [1] A.
