Primary break-up simulation using high-speed-rotary bell for spray painting processes

The present proposed research will be within the frame of an ongoing AIF-project “Modellierung der Tropfenaufladung bei der elektrostatisch-unterstützten Lackierung zur Minimierung von Lackverlusten und Anlagenausfällen durch Verschmutzung – MoELa", aiming to basically understand the primary breakup of paint liquids. Industrial atomizer, namely high-speed rotary bell will be used. Effects of operating conditions on liquid breakup, such as bell rotating speed, liquid flow rate, liquid viscosity, shaping airflow, liquid EHD properties, as well as electrical field will be taken into account. The numerical results will deliver very useful information for creating reasonable particle injection model for droplet trajectory calculation and finally for optimization of atomizers and the whole spray painting processes.
