Direct Numerical Simulation of heat and mass transfer in Porous media

This project is aimed to investigate hypersonic turbulent flow coupled with thermal protection system (TPS) via direct numerical simulation (DNS). The TPS is a fiber-type porous media that will be fully-resolved within the large-scale simulations. The microscopic big data will serve for the modeling with volume-averaged Navier-Stokes simulations with data-driven methods. DNS in the hypersonic channel flow will be coupled both with microscopic simulation and meso-scale modeling. Most importantly, the project will be completely built on JAX-Fluids framework which allows seamless hybridization of ML with CFD, and automatic differentiation (AD) capabilities.
