Numerical Simulation of Shock-Turbulence Interaction

The problem of advanced modeling of shock-turbulence interaction for wall-bounded shear flows is investigated by Large-Eddy Simulation. Detailed experimental data for the considered flow configuation are available. Open questions addressed are the existence and mechanisms of unsteady large-scale structures in the flow fields and their significance for a reliable prediction of aerodynamic and thermodynamic flow properties. We expect that as result of the project a clear understanding of shock and separation dynamics, large-scale unsteady flow structures, significance of compressibility, and approaches on how to improve standard turbulence moidels is achieved.
